What we are planting this summer : Garden 2011

Our Seeds

It is time to start planting. Here are our seeds for the summer. All of them were purchased from Baker Creek Heirloom. A fellow redditor suggested rareseeds.com (Baker Creek’s website) to me after talking about doing a seed gift exchange. What an awesome idea that would be!

We got 5 varieties of vines that we hope climb up our pergola. They were chosen based on looks and what we enjoy eating:

  • Ali Baba WatermelonWhite Wonder Cucumbers
  • Chinese Yellow Cucumbers
  • Yellow Brandywine Tomatoes
  • Purple Podded Pole Beans
  • Henderson’s Black Valentine Pole Bean

Got the following to try out a “Three Sisters” garden:

  • Country Gentleman Sweet Corn
  • Streamline Runner Bean
  • Crookneck Squash – Early Golden Summer

For our salad garden:

  • Monstrueux De Viroflay Spinach
  • Rocky Top Lettuce Mix
  • Tendercrisp Celery
  • Parisienne Carrots (which they Baker Creek sent as a gift!)
  • Chinese Red Meat (Radish)
  • Early Scarlet Globe Radish

Strawberry PopcornSome standards:

  • Gold Princess Onion
  • Thai Long Sweet (Pepper)
  • Albino Bullnose Pepper
  • Golden Beet
  • Ali Baba Watermelon

and finally, for fun:

  • Strawberry Popcorn

Thanks to Hamsterdam for pointing me to rareseeds.com!
